pH is only part of the picture
A pH number shows acidity or alkalinity at the time of measurement, but buffering capacity matters too. Alkalinity and related chemistry influence how easily the pH changes and how stable the corrected water will be.
Calcite and neutralising media
For suitable water, neutralising media can dissolve gradually and raise pH while adding hardness and alkalinity. Contact time, media quantity and expected consumption need to be considered, and the filter requires periodic replenishment.
Chemical dosing
Controlled dosing can be appropriate where a more active or adjustable correction method is required. Dosing should be linked to flow or process control and commissioned carefully to avoid under- or over-correction.
Verify the result
After pH correction, the water should be checked at the point that matters. The treatment may also change scaling tendency, so pH should not be adjusted in isolation from the rest of the water chemistry.

Frequently asked questions
Practical answers to common questions we receive when planning this type of water project.
Why can low-pH water be a problem?
Acidic water can be corrosive to metals and plumbing and may affect downstream treatment. The significance depends on the full water chemistry, not pH alone.
Can calcite be used to raise pH?
Calcite media is one possible approach for suitable water. Contact time, flow, alkalinity, hardness and the amount of correction required determine whether it is appropriate.
When is chemical dosing used instead?
Controlled dosing may be considered where a predictable correction is required or where media-based correction is not suitable for the flow and chemistry.
