What RO can address
RO is commonly used where dissolved salts, nitrate or other ionic constituents need significant reduction, or where a process needs lower-conductivity water. The exact rejection varies by membrane, contaminant and operating conditions.
What RO does not replace
Sediment filtration, iron removal, softening or other pretreatment may still be necessary. Sending unsuitable feed water directly to membranes can cause fouling, scaling and poor plant performance.
Recovery and waste stream
Not all feed water becomes product water. The concentrate stream contains the rejected salts, so the system must have enough feed-water capacity and a suitable way to manage reject water.
Domestic versus commercial RO
Small point-of-use systems and commercial plants have very different duty cycles, controls and maintenance requirements. HydroGrid sizes RO around the required litres per day or litres per hour rather than simply choosing a membrane by nameplate capacity.

Does RO waste water?

Is RO suitable for the entire home?
Sometimes, but not automatically. Whole-property RO has higher flow, storage and operating requirements, so targeted RO may be more practical where only certain uses require low-TDS water.
